Just a Quick Update!

I just HAD to tell you all that I checked on the baby bunnies today and their eyes are open! They are SO CUTE! I'll take pictures when they are 2 weeks old... I can't BELIEVE how fast they're growing! We are planning on getting a Californian buck soon.. we're going to name him "The Big Kahuna"

Oh, and our little Clara has laid a tiny egg for us every day since we brought her home. She goes in the little love shack and cackles up a storm. She's so PROUD of herself! Too cute!

Anyway... I'll post pictures on Friday of the bunnies.

Kelly, what the heck are you going to do with all of those rabbits, girl?

Oh, I don't know if you want to know.. :(

We plan on keeping one or two of the girls from this litter for future mommies... the rest, well... Rabbit meat is very good for you.

I am an animal lover and these rabbits are really well taken care of. We considered raising meat chickens but rabbits are WAY easier and the meat is much better for you.

I plan on using ever part for something. I don't want to waste a thing. I'm even going to use their pelts. I want to show them all the respect I can by really making use of them.

This is pretty controversial, and it might upset some people... but this is what they're here for. It's going to be hard when the time comes, but I've researched it and have found the quickest and most pain-free way of getting the job done.

They are loved, but they are here for a reason. *Sigh* They are just so darned CUTE! :(

Glad to hear you're not a crazy animal hoarder -- well, there's a little bit of that in all of us country people. The trick is not to let it get to out of control.

My husband and I also are firm believers that the farm needs to help pay for itself. You can't invest in feed and your time and not get something back in return. So when is the rooster-butchering party? :)

Haha!! *PHEW!* I'm always afraid when I tell people what my rabbits are for... :)

As for the rooster butchering.. I WISH! But, my MIL and Hubby are too attached to them all and they are staying. But I have convinced them to let me free range the boys and let them live in their own little bachelor pad... fed only cracked corn, scraps and what they find. If something "gets" them then... *shrug*. I'm looking at them as a predator barometer.

But I did tell her today that if the boys start getting aggressive towards us we'll be having some nice fresh rooster soup!

If you do decide to butcher the cocks, make sure you cook them in a crock pot for a long, long time. They can be pretty tough!

Well, after today we might be cooking them! The bigger male ameracauna who had been in with the hens got booted back out with the boys because he ripped a BIG chunk of feathers out of my MILs favorite hens...

Today he and his brother (who is just as big) have decided to join forces and beat the HECK out of the lakenvelder boys.. and when I say beat the heck out of them that also involves treating them like hens - both of them on one of the lakenvelders. We were not impressed.

I would LOVE to see them floating with some carrots right now...

Well, I was going to say it's a good thing you've taken lots of pictures because in a few months, they probably won't look like they do now. Especially if your winters are anything like ours. It beats them up some. Supposed to be 22 degrees here tomorrow nite -- I'm not ready for this!
